Simon Fraser University is hiring a Compensation Associate in Burnaby, British Columbia. The position is Temporary Full Time, works on a hybrid basis and closes on August 26, 2026.

The published annual pay range is CAD 64,225 to CAD 76,593. The employer’s official Taleo page currently displays Apply Now and lists one opening with 72 biweekly hours.

The assignment is scheduled to end August 31, 2027. This role is a useful opportunity for an HR professional who has some experience with compensation, job classification or structured unionized environments and wants deeper exposure to total rewards.

Opportunity Overview

The Compensation Associate supports SFU’s Labour Relations & Total Rewards team. The role acts as an initial point of contact for basic compensation questions and provides research, data and administrative support for compensation programs.

A major theme is job evaluation and classification. The associate reviews job information, helps research comparable positions and supports the documentation and analysis used by compensation specialists.

Key Responsibilities

The associate reviews and responds to basic compensation enquiries received through the HR Compensation inbox and supports compensation analysis and reporting.

Work includes researching internal jobs for comparative analysis, reviewing job descriptions to determine the extent of changes and supporting evaluation and classification activity under the direction of compensation staff.

The position also calculates salary changes, prepares reports and communications on classification decisions, supports third-party compensation surveys and maintains job-evaluation records.

Administrative process improvement is part of the role, so candidates who have streamlined HR workflows or improved record quality should make that experience visible.

Education and Experience

SFU asks for a diploma in Human Resources Management or a related discipline and two years of related experience with exposure to a structured classification system in a unionized environment. The university can also consider an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge of job design and job evaluation theory is important, together with familiarity with HR systems such as PeopleSoft or SAP.

Skills for the Role

The job requires careful research and data analysis because compensation decisions rely on accurate job information and consistent comparison.

Communication is also important. The associate prepares reports and communicates classification information, so clear writing, presentation skills and the ability to answer routine compensation questions professionally are useful.

Employment Terms and Benefits

The current assignment ends August 31, 2027. Temporary APSA employees receive additional pay in lieu of some benefits and vacation pay, employer-paid extended health and dental plans and professional-development support when the contract meets eligibility requirements.

Tips for Applicants

Use classification examples

Describe a job-evaluation, classification or job-description review you supported and explain your role in the process.

Show data accuracy

Compensation work depends on careful analysis. Include examples involving salary calculations, survey data, records or HR reporting.

Keep HR systems practical

If you have used PeopleSoft, SAP or another HRIS, state the tasks you completed rather than listing the platform without context.

Final Notes

The SFU Compensation Associate is a current temporary full-time vacancy with an employer Apply Now route and an August 26, 2026 deadline. It is additional to the Direct Response Manager role used in the earlier CSV.
