Available Position
- Position: Principal, Overlay Management
- Employer: OMERS
- Location: Toronto, Ontario
- Requisition: JR-8104
- Employment: Full Time
- Team: Global Multi-Asset Strategies / Overlay Management
Key Responsibilities
The Principal develops global public-equity investment views using macroeconomic analysis, valuation signals and market dynamics and leads tactical asset-allocation decisions within established risk limits.
The role implements portfolio adjustments intended to improve plan-level risk and return outcomes and coordinates equity positioning with currency and fixed-income decisions.
Research responsibilities include macro and market analysis, continued development of equity risk-premia signals and improvements to passive-equity benchmark delivery and rebalancing methods.
The Principal also implements overlay strategies using liquid instruments such as futures, swaps and options and is responsible for equity-related tail-risk hedging, scenario analysis and downside-protection design.
Experience and Education
OMERS asks for at least ten years of public-markets investing experience with portfolio-management-level responsibility in equities, asset allocation, derivatives or overlay strategies.
A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline is required. An MBA, MSc, PhD and/or CFA is considered ideal.
Investment and Risk Skills
Candidates need deep knowledge of global equity markets, portfolio construction and asset allocation and should be able to link macroeconomic regimes with equity performance, correlations and risk behaviour.
Strong derivatives knowledge is important, along with experience evaluating drawdowns, volatility, tail risk and the ex-ante and ex-post characteristics of tactical positions.
The role operates within formal risk budgets and governance guardrails, so disciplined investment decision making is as important as generating market views.
Leadership
The Principal presents investment views and recommendations to senior investment leaders and governance forums and collaborates across Overlay Management, GMAS, TPM, Trading, Operations and Risk.
Mentoring junior investment professionals is also part of the position, including developing skills in macro research, portfolio construction and implementation.

OMERS states that JR-8104 is an existing vacancy and the Workday page currently shows Apply. No fixed closing date is published.
How to Apply
Apply through OMERS’ official Workday page for JR-8104. The application should demonstrate senior public-markets portfolio responsibility, tactical asset allocation, derivatives implementation, macro research, tail-risk management and investment leadership.
Tips for Applicants
