Geotab is currently hiring a Lead Embedded Software in the Loop Developer in Ontario, with Oakville, Toronto and Waterloo listed as locations. The role is permanent full time and focuses on the simulation infrastructure used to validate Geotab GO device firmware.
The direct Greenhouse application form is live and the employer identifies the posting as an existing vacancy. Geotab publishes a hiring range of CAD 116,200 to CAD 155,000 per year.
This is a senior embedded engineering role for someone who can combine hands-on software development with architectural ownership, technical leadership and large-scale automated test infrastructure.
Opportunity Overview
The Lead Embedded Developer drives the technical direction of Geotab’s Software in the Loop team. The platform is a proprietary Golang-based simulation framework that can simulate GO devices locally for developers and at cloud scale for overnight regression runs.
The role therefore crosses embedded firmware, cloud infrastructure and automated testing. A successful candidate needs to understand how simulated devices, CI/CD and engineering workflows fit together.
Available Position
- Position: Lead Embedded Software in the Loop Developer
- Employer: Geotab
- Locations: Oakville, Toronto and Waterloo, Ontario
- Employment: Permanent Full Time
- Job Reference: 5252269008
- Hiring Range: CAD 116,200-155,000 per year
Key Responsibilities
The developer architects and validates firmware-simulation solutions from requirements through production and owns technical initiatives across the SiL roadmap.
Upcoming work includes hardware-in-the-loop integration and virtual-twin tooling used by Engineering Support. The lead also manages or drives GitLab CI/CD pipeline work and helps organize development priorities within two-week Scrum cycles.
Mentoring and code quality are major responsibilities. The lead performs peer reviews, enforces coding standards, maintains technical documentation and defines unit, integration and simulated test frameworks.
Who Can Apply?
Geotab asks for seven or more years of hands-on embedded software development with demonstrated progression to technical lead or architect responsibilities.
Applicants need a post-secondary diploma or degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The technical stack includes Golang together with experience in C/POSIX, embedded Linux and/or RTOS environments. Containerized microservices, cloud deployment, GitLab CI/CD, Python or Bash and SQL or BigQuery are also important.
Simulation and Test Infrastructure
Experience in Software in the Loop, Hardware in the Loop or large-scale automated test infrastructure is a strong asset. Candidates should be ready to explain how they designed simulation environments, test frameworks or virtual-device systems and how those systems improved firmware validation.
Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, concurrency and design patterns for resource-constrained embedded systems is also relevant.
Leadership and Hybrid Work
The role is not purely individual-contributor coding. Geotab wants someone who can explain architecture to technical and non-technical stakeholders, mentor developers and make decisions that affect the long-term direction of the platform.
The employer requires support for a hybrid schedule. Geotab’s broader flexible-work model also includes online collaboration and eligible employee benefits.
Application Status
The Greenhouse form currently loads with the complete application fields and a Submit application control. The posting states that it is an existing vacancy and publishes the Canadian salary range.
How to Apply
Apply through Geotab’s official Greenhouse job application for reference 5252269008. Emphasize embedded architecture, Golang or C-level development, CI/CD, simulation frameworks, test automation and technical leadership.

Tips for Applicants
Show architecture decisions
Explain one system where you chose the architecture, the constraints you considered and how the design performed after implementation.
Quantify simulation or testing scale
Mention devices, test runs, build frequency, execution time or defect detection improvements where those figures are available.
Demonstrate leadership technically
Use examples of mentoring, code-review standards, roadmap decisions or cross-team engineering influence rather than relying only on a lead title.
Final Notes
The Lead Embedded Software in the Loop Developer is a new Geotab role for this batch and is not the Lead Software Developer post already delivered earlier. The official application form remains active.
