Key Responsibilities

The technician performs safe preventative and repair maintenance on equipment used in airport ground operations and follows applicable codes, regulations and Air Canada procedures.

The work requires knowledge of drivetrains and diesel and gasoline engines. Electrical and hydraulic systems, metal fabrication and welding are considered useful additional capabilities.

Technicians need to read and understand schematic diagrams for troubleshooting and use computers and diagnostic equipment effectively.

The role also requires strong teamwork and communication because ground-equipment maintenance operates in a demanding airport environment where service reliability affects several operational groups.

Education, Licence and Experience

Applicants need a High School diploma and a valid provincial licence or endorsement as an Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Duty Technician and/or Truck and Coach Technician recognized by the applicable authority or the Red Seal Program.

At least one year of experience in the trade is required. Air Canada also requires candidates to pass a pre-employment qualifying examination.

Preferred Assets

An Inter-Provincial Red Seal is preferred but not mandatory where the required provincial credentials are met.

Other assets include advanced fuel-injection or diesel tune-up credentials, air-conditioning and refrigeration licences, propane-fuel-system licences and automotive-inspection credentials.
