This is a different OMERS position from the Global Credit Portfolio Analyst article already included in the previous CSV. It focuses specifically on Portfolio Analytics and the newly established Overlay Management group.

Opportunity Overview

OMERS Portfolio Analytics develops proprietary analytics for Capital Markets and Total Portfolio Management. The team uses quantitative methods, machine learning and AI to help portfolio managers understand risk, construct portfolios and identify better investment decisions.

The Senior Analyst will support Overlay Management, which manages areas such as passive portfolios, tactical asset allocation, dynamic currency management and tail-risk hedging.

Available Position

  • Position: Senior Analyst (Senior Associate), Portfolio Analytics
  • Employer: OMERS
  • Location: Toronto, Ontario
  • Requisition: JR-8303
  • Employment: Full Time
  • Salary: CAD 130,000-160,000 per year

Key Responsibilities

The analyst builds reliable investment-data pipelines with documentation, alerts and resolution procedures so analytics can be trusted by portfolio managers.

The role develops tools and processes for different types of investment data and applies quantitative methods to produce meaningful portfolio insights.

Working with OMERS Data & Technology, the analyst helps convert analytical solutions into products that investment teams can consume and contributes to improvements in the technology stack.

The position also owns the complete product-development lifecycle and must communicate technical subject matter clearly to Overlay Management portfolio managers and other Total Portfolio Management groups.

Experience and Technical Skills

OMERS asks for at least five years of portfolio-engineering experience covering capital markets and financial instruments. Relevant product knowledge includes derivatives such as swaps, futures and options, fixed income, equities and foreign exchange.

Extensive Python experience is required, including tools such as Pandas, NumPy and SciPy. SQL experience across platforms such as Postgres or SQL Server is also important, together with data technologies such as Redis and Parquet.

The role also expects experience with GitHub, Azure DevOps and CI/CD and a strong quantitative foundation in areas such as linear algebra, calculus, probability, statistics, time series and optimization.

Investment and Communication Skills

The strongest candidate will be able to translate an investment team’s business problem into a technical analytical solution and then explain the result back to portfolio managers in practical investment language.

Attention to detail and independent ownership are important because analytics can directly influence investment decisions and portfolio implementation.

Salary and Incentives

The employer publishes an expected salary range of CAD 130,000-160,000 per year.

The position may also be eligible for annual incentive awards under applicable short-term and long-term plans and participation in OMERS group benefits and retirement programs.

How to Apply

Apply through OMERS’ official Workday page for JR-8303. Tailor the resume around portfolio engineering, quantitative investment analytics, Python, SQL, capital-markets products and examples where data or modelling improved an investment process.
