Suncor is currently recruiting a Senior Solution Designer, AWS for its Calgary head office. The position is full time, carries requisition R0017337 and has an official application end date of August 21, 2026. The employer’s Workday page is live and shows the Apply action, so this is a current vacancy rather than an older indexed job.
The role combines solution architecture with hands-on application engineering. Suncor wants someone who can design, develop, modernize and support enterprise applications on Amazon Web Services while helping move legacy business capabilities toward scalable, secure and highly available cloud-native solutions.
This is a professional technology role rather than a student internship. A recent Suncor student opportunity reviewed for this keyword had already closed, so the CSV uses the current AWS vacancy instead of presenting an expired student posting as active.
Opportunity Overview
The Senior Solution Designer acts as an Application Lead and Solution Designer. The person is expected to contribute at both architecture and implementation level, guide delivery teams and make sure cloud solutions remain supportable after deployment.
Suncor also places emphasis on responsible use of newer AI capabilities. The role can contribute to AI-enabled software delivery and to the design or evaluation of agentic and generative AI solutions when those tools create measurable business value.
Available Position
- Position: Senior Solution Designer, AWS
- Employer: Suncor
- Location: Calgary, Alberta
- Requisition: R0017337
- Employment: Full Time
- Closing Date: August 21, 2026
- Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate designs secure, scalable, highly available and fault-tolerant applications and services on AWS. That includes helping modernize legacy applications and business capabilities and moving them into cloud environments using modern engineering patterns.
Hands-on development is part of the job. The role designs, develops, tests, enhances and supports applications, APIs, microservices and serverless components and is expected to improve application performance, reliability, scalability, security and cloud cost.
AI-enabled delivery is another part of the mandate. Suncor mentions code generation, documentation support, test-case creation, solution analysis and developer-productivity tools, together with agentic or generative AI use cases involving workflow automation, knowledge retrieval, API or tool invocation, content generation and support automation. Security, guardrails, validation and human oversight remain important.
Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants need post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field and at least three years of hands-on experience designing, building, deploying or supporting applications on AWS.
The technical background should include AWS services such as Lambda, EC2, S3, RDS, API Gateway, Cognito, DynamoDB, Glue and IAM. Experience with Docker and container platforms such as EKS or AKS is also relevant.
Suncor expects experience with full-stack applications, REST APIs, microservices, serverless or event-driven patterns, Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices. Terraform, AWS CDK, GitHub, CI/CD, automated testing and secure deployment are specifically relevant.
Programming and Cloud Skills
The vacancy calls for TypeScript, Python and SQL/NoSQL database knowledge. Candidates should also understand modern integration patterns and be able to troubleshoot applications across development and production environments.
AWS Developer – Associate certification is preferred. AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Generative AI certification is considered an asset, but Suncor also encourages applicants who may not match every listed qualification and can demonstrate transferable skills.
Location, Benefits and Deadline
This is an office-based role at Suncor Energy Centre, 150 – 6th Ave S.W. in Calgary. The normal schedule is a 40-hour Monday-to-Friday work week with occasional site visits.
Suncor describes annual bonuses, pension and savings programs with company matching, company-paid health, dental and vision coverage, employee assistance resources, generous time off and talent-development programs among its broader employee offerings.
The application end date is August 21, 2026. Candidates should submit before the deadline shown on the official Workday page.
How to Apply
Apply through Suncor’s official Workday page for requisition R0017337. Focus the resume on hands-on AWS delivery, cloud modernization, full-stack engineering, DevOps and any responsible AI-enabled development work that directly matches the role.
The closing date for this opportunity was August 21, 2026.
Tips for Applicants
Show real AWS ownership
List the AWS services you actually used and explain what you designed, migrated, deployed or supported rather than presenting a generic cloud-skills list.
Connect architecture to delivery
This is not a diagram-only role. Include examples where you guided technical design and remained involved through build, testing, release and operational support.
Use AI examples carefully
If you have worked with GenAI or agentic systems, explain the business result and the safeguards used around security, data protection, validation and human review.
Final Notes
The Senior Solution Designer, AWS vacancy is current on Suncor’s own recruitment system and closes August 21, 2026. It was selected because the employer application page is active and the previously found Suncor student roles are no longer within their application windows.
