Who Can Apply?
TMU states that applicants must be international students entering post-secondary education for the first time. The student must begin the first year of a full-time four-year undergraduate degree, or a five-year co-op degree, at TMU in January 2027 and be required to pay international tuition fees.

The statement should also be consistent with the rest of the application. Claims about leadership or volunteer work should be specific enough to be credible.
What Does the $10,000 Cover?
The award has a fixed value of $10,000. TMU describes it as an entrance-only, non-renewable scholarship, which means recipients should not assume they will receive another $10,000 in later years.
International students should therefore build a full financial plan for tuition, housing, food, transportation, books and personal costs across the entire degree.

The 86% figure is a minimum scholarship condition, not a prediction of who will win. Competitive applicants may have stronger averages, but TMU does not publish a guaranteed winning cutoff for the Winter award.
Students educated outside Canada should use the equivalent academic standard accepted by TMU rather than converting grades through an unofficial online calculator. Admission officers assess international credentials using the university’s own requirements.
Leadership Evidence Should Be Recent and Verifiable
Applicants should prioritize activities from secondary school and the period leading into university. A role is more useful when the student can explain duration, responsibility and outcome.
For example, organizing a school fundraising drive can be described through the number of participants, the student’s responsibilities and the result. A club title with no explanation gives the scholarship committee less information.
January Intake Students Need to Plan Immigration Early
Winter-entry students have less time between the September scholarship deadline and January classes than many fall-entry applicants. Students who receive admission should therefore prepare study permit documents, proof of funds and travel planning promptly.
The scholarship can help with costs, but the student still needs to satisfy IRCC’s financial-support requirements for the study permit application.
What Happens After the Scholarship Application?
The award application does not replace TMU admission. A student still needs to satisfy the conditions in the university offer, including final academic results, deposit requirements and any program-specific conditions.
For a January 2027 start, successful international applicants should also leave enough time for study-permit processing and financial planning. The $10,000 award is entrance-only and non-renewable, so later-year tuition and living costs need a separate funding plan.
